2012 Jaguar XK XKR-S review

Jaguar's Grand Tourer gets a sleek new range-topping model, the 2012 Jaguar XKR-S Coupe. Elsewhere, the styling on the regular XK and XKR has been slightly Altered with new front and rear fascias, new headlamps and LED running lights. When it comes to luxury sports coupes and convertibles, the 2012 Jaguar XK gets just about everything right. In the R form, the XK hits 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The 2012 Jaguar XK is available in two body styles and three principal models. The XK and XKR are available in coupe and soft-top convertible body styles, while the high-performance XKR-S coupe is only.

The base 2012 Jaguar XK comes loaded with 19-inch wheels, an adjustable suspension, keyless ignition / entry, automatic bi-xenon headlamps, LED running lamps, rear foglamps, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and automatic wipers. The XKR adds a supercharged engine, different 19-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, upgraded exhaust, adaptive headlights and HD radio. The Dynamic Pack adds 20-inch wheels, revised suspension (springs, dampers, lower ride height), a larger rear wing, a lower front aero splitter, rocker sill extensions, a rear aero diffuser and red brake calipers. Options on all XK models include a heated windshield and a sport steering wheel wrapped in faux suede.
The 2012 Jaguar XK is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 produces 385 hp and That 380 pound-feet of torque. As with every XK, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic are standard. That Jaguar estimates it'll hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. Fuel economy is identical to That of the XKR.

Standard safety equipment on the2012 Jaguar XK lineup includes traction and stability control, antilock brakes and front side airbags. The 2012 Jaguar XK's cockpit is well-tailored and inviting. With the top down, the XK convertible can still hold a respectable 8 cubic feet. It's no surprise the 2012 Jaguar XK is an impressive straight-line cruiser.

2012 Jaguar XK chose the latter. It boosted the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8's 503 horsepower to 542, jacked up the torque by 41 lb-ft to 502 lb-ft, freed up the speed limiter from 155 mph to 186 mph (a metric-round 300 km / h) , and shaved 0.4 seconds off the 0-60 mph time, to 4.2. It lowered the ride height by 0.4 inches, stiffened the front suspension uprights, and raised spring rates by 28 percent front, 32 percent rear. In the universe of sports car, the XKR-S is still a big-bore V-8 blown gran turismo.

Applying the old dollars-per-horsepower formula, the 2012 Jaguar XK price premium may look a little STEEP. The new suspension features aluminum knuckles, stiffer springs (by 28 percent, front: 32 percent, rear), active dampers, revised rear geometry, and an active (read: torque-vectoring) differential. The active diff allowed the chassis team to raise the stability-control threshold. Besides reduced ride height, the S sports a new carbon-fiber front splitter and rear wing, rocker-panel extensions, and a rear diffuser.
