First Drive: 2012 Audi Q3

Audi got into the crossover business late, and it's been scrambling to catch up. Apparently Audi's top brass believes the  Audi Q3 is too small for America.
The Q3's European prices are about 15 percent cheaper than the Q5, with matched spec and engine.
What's that about being too small again?
The first was short but intriguing Squirt on some mountain roads in a prototype of Q3 powered by a mildly detuned, 300-hp version of the five-cylinder turbo out of the TT RS.
We also sampled a front-drive Audi's Q3 with 140-hp diesel, the which was no slug and went about its business in relative quiet.

The
Audi Q3 chiseled, loudmouth front grille is flanked by a pair of eyes with the brand's trademark LED light pipes as mascara.
Inside, Audi's cabin materials show no signs of cheapening.
All the Q3's engines are quieter and smoother than the transverse They are in other Audis.
At highway speeds, all's well. The aforementioned engine quietness, plus a relative absence of tire noise thanks to comparatively tall sidewalls, make this seem like a cruiser quieter than Audi's sports sedans and hatchbacks.
While the new A3 hatch Will be the first car to use the VW Group's MQB platform, the old Q3 Actually uses the PQ35 platform, as do the present A3 and VW Golf.

It was at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2007 That We first saw Audi's small crossover concept, the Cross Coupe Quattro.
